Big Bad Beautiful Women

About the artist:

My appreciation for fantasy art started at a young age and was influenced by masters such as Frank Frazzeta and Richard Corbin. I noticed that they painted their women slightly more curvy than others and I was immediately captivated by their beauty and their style. Although these women still fit into society’s “skinny parameters”, they were at the upper end of the scale.

I wanted to paint women as I appreciated and saw them,     without regard to mainstream views. I painted only for the   enjoyment that it gave me, never intending to show my work. It wasn’t until recently that I was exposed to the BBW movement and realized that there are a lot of other people out there like me, which is how I came to the decision to share my work with others and found that I helped fill a niche in the art world. My typical subject matter feature big, beautiful women portrayed in dominate, Goddess style and in “girl power” themes. I like to portray my women as I like them in real life. Women that are confident and comfortable in their own skin, no matter of their size. Basically “big babes with attitude!”. Other interest of mine include ancient archaeology, prehistoric and modern day wildlife, as well as science fiction, all of which are present in my works.

With the additional interest I have in archaeology and ancient art, I have learned that it has only been since the postmodern television era that “thin is in” and that most women who weighed less than 200 pounds in ancient times either died from exposure or from hunger.

When I am not involved in some of my more physical hobbies, such as climbing and hiking, I am working on a painting or drawing. Since I don’t watch television this is how I enjoy my spare time. When I start a piece I can usually see the whole scene in my head, including all of the details, before I start. The hardest part is deciding where to start, but once I get going it usually flows smoothly. The majority of my work is “mixed media”. Mostly water colors, some acrylics, inks and pencils, along with a bit of air brushing. I never use the computer. Most of my work is done on hot press illustration board, as I like a smooth surface for detail. It also holds up very well to different techniques that would be destructive to other surfaces, such as washes, cutting film masks and stencil burning. I can usually sit at the drafting table anywhere from 6 to 12 hours without losing interest, using books on tape for background. A lot of my work is very detailed and could easily take over 100 hours. Some of my women are drawn from live models or pictures sent to me via e-mail or regular mail. Others are a figment of my imagination.

I hope that this site will give others enjoyment as well as enlightenment and hope that you can appreciate how big women can both be beautiful and exotic.
